The Dancers' Development Fund
INTRODUCTION
The Dancers’ Development Fund is an organisation dedicated to addressing any area of need pertaining to the training of young people who desire a career in the theatre.

The project being undertaken presently was developed specifically for the pre-sixteens who are determined to pursue higher vocational training in theatre skills with a strong emphasis on dance.

The performers and educators who initiated this project had been
aware for some time that many young students may only have studied their dance techniques on a hobby basis while in main stream academic education. The transition to full time theatre training with a high level
of dance demands can be extremely tough on an ordinary body. Also
there are many natural formations such as swayback and bowed legs, fallen arches or stiff feet, poor postures generally that can cause unwanted strain when intense dance tuition is undertaken.

Our consultants have developed a series of simple exercises to correct problems, strenghthen bodies and prepare students so that injury can be avoided. This information is delivered initially in a workshop format
by experts. The balanced program is supported by video/DVD.

Our target recipients are British regional teachers. Recently we conducted very successful market research along side a test workshop for a random selection of teachers from well known schools in the
British Isles. The response was overwhelmingly positive.

The workshops will soon be planned regionally under the expert guidance of Shirley Hancock, MCSP, SRP,ONC, chartered physiotherapist (previously with the English National Ballet) currently Consultant to the Royal Danish Ballet and Alan Herdman, England’s foremost Pilates pioneer.

This series of exercises has proven so effective that there are plans to development a similar specific approach for ex-professionals wishing to return to the dance industry, those with sporting ambitions, singers with their very special requirements and actors whose general fitness is imperative.

The project co-ordinator is Tatiana Novaes Coelho. Please direct any comments or inquiries to:
